US helicopter fire kills two Iraqis, wounds seven children

BAGHDAD (AFP) - At least two people were killed and seven children wounded
when a US helicopter opened fire after coming under attack in the northern
city of Mosul, the US military said Wednesday. 
 
 
Iraqi police Brigadier General Abdel Karim Khalaf al-Juburi from Mosul
gave a higher toll, saying that four people were killed in the shooting,
which took place in the city's central Al-Zangili neighbourhood.

The US military said one of its helicopters received "small arms fire from
the ground and defended itself" while flying near Mosul.

"Forces on the ground responding to the area reported that two people were
killed in the exchange and seven children were wounded," it said.

Juburi put the number of wounded at 14, including two children.

Mosul, Iraq's third largest city, has seen a number of insurgent attacks
and US and Iraqi security forces launched a military crackdown there in
February.
